Sundaram
Sundaram is a creative arts practice center for the disabled which was established in Dhaka in 2019. At present, eight Sundarams have been established in 8 divisions in the country – Dhaka, Chittagong, Sylhet, Rajshahi, Rangpur, Barisal, Khulna and Mymensingh. People with physical, visual and speech-hearing disabilities are constantly engaged in creative work through various trainings.
‘Sundaram’ was born as part of the continuation of the theater practice for the disabled in 2013, a joint initiative of Dhaka Theater and the British Council. The main objective of Sundaram is to integrate the disabled population of the country into mainstream cultural and social activities. In this way, the common misconceptions and thoughts about the disabled in the society will be removed. The main goal of Sundaram is to facilitate the development of creativity by training disabled artists in various fields according to their intellectual and physical abilities.
State and social structures are still not disability friendly. To make the larger population of the country aware and empathetic about the disabled and to develop disability-friendly facilities across the country. And in the process creating an inclusive society where people thrive as human beings, regardless of their handicaps.

The words of the director
Creating theater with such a wonderful group of imaginative and innovative artists has been a truly unique and stunning experience for me. They have an extraordinary ability to perceive the world around them and analyze the atmosphere of the theater arena in their own way. Some of it is unshakable and interesting, some of it is their own and what I have also acquired from them. Shakespeare’s story ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ takes on a different form with such an emotional interaction of these artists. By applying some theater games and improvisation processes I have only tried to illustrate the story and create some dream scenarios, which are very ‘dreams’ of these wonderful artists, very own…
Drama
Shwapna Kahon
The wedding day of King Theseus of Athens was fixed with his Priya Hippolyta. Aegeus entered with a worried look on his forehead in the happy tide of the two. He appeared before the king on the trial of his daughter Hermia. Hermia disobeys her father’s orders to marry Lysander, which angers Aegeus because he considers Demetrius a worthy suitor. On the other hand, Nida’s daughter Helena is in love with Demetrius. Although the story of this couple’s love starts out simple, Shakespeare takes us deeper where dreams, consolations, intertwining events between colorful characters can be observed. As soon as the thread of the story is pulled, our attention is drawn by the group of fairies, where there are Oberon, Titania, Puck and many other dreamers whose surreal wanderings sometimes make us laugh, sometimes sway the mind waves with dance-song-rhymes and sometimes their magic ingenuity leaves us with doubts and opens the way of thinking. gives There is a troupe of actors who will stage a play on the day of the king’s wedding. In that forest the characters wander with their infighting. Thus, at the end of various tensions, betrayals, love, horrors, we see the reunion of two lovers. The story begins and ends in the palace of the great lord Theseus.
